Thursday evening the Carbondale School Board approved the hire of Eldorado native Troy Barton as the next head coach of the Terriers boys' basketball team. Barton, a former Southeastern Illinois College assistant, returns to Southern Illinois after over a decade in Mississippi at several different stops as an assistant. The Benton Rangers came in to Wednesday night with a 9-9 record and had a tall task in the 19-0 Harrisburg Bulldogs who were ranked #1 in 2A in Illinois. They overcame and beat the Bulldogs in 8 innings 1-0.
