Another Southern Illinois county has decided to sue the state – Franklin County state’s attorney Evan Owens filed suit on behalf of the county on Tuesday, alleging that the state owes the county $98,000 in reimbursements of his salary.
State law requires the state to reimburse counties for more than two thirds of state’s attorney’s salaries, and the statute requires that reimbursement be made monthly. It hasn’t been paid since June, since the state started operating without a budget in July.
Williamson County filed a similar lawsuit last week, and St. Clair County won a lawsuit against the state last month.
Franklin County’s case has a hearing set for January 29.
