A Cobden man is behind bars after attempting to flee from police.

Carbondale Police say 26-year old Eliseo Carmona was heading southbound on US Rt. 51 near Pleasant Hill Road around 1 am yesterday and was drifting between lanes and also did not have working headlights.

Carbondale Police Officers and one IL State Trooper continued to pursue the vehicle at low speeds, before the car came to a stop in Union County near Union Springs Rd after the car drove over spike strips set up by the Union Co. Sheriff’s Department.

Carmona was arrested and charged with Aggravated DUI, Fleeing to Elude Police, No Valid Insurance, among other traffic charges.

Carmona is incarcerated in the Jackson Co. Jail.
