Williamson Co. Sheriff Bennie Vick is warning residents about a phone scam going on around the county.
Several county residents have reported receiving a phone call from someone claiming to represent the “tax agency.”
The scammer will tell the potential victim that they have not paid their property taxes and will demand payment over the phone using credit card or banking information. Threats of arrest are then given if the potential victim hesitates or refuses to give out the information.
Vick wants residents to know that notification of unpaid property taxes are only sent using certified mail through the US Postal Service, and that people are never arrested for delinquent property tax payments.
