The Murphysboro Red Devils are taking advantage of the IHSA's new rules that allow 11-on-11 scrimmages this week. Voice of the Red Devils, Matt Varney, met with Coach Gary Carter Thursday evening before their first scrimmage with Marion and discussed the new 11-on-11 scrimmages and some of the new additions to the team that have Murphysboro excited for the coming season:
After an 11-2 season and just the program's third semifinal appearance, the Murphysboro Red Devils were selected as the John A. Logan College Team of the Year. Coach of the Red Devils, Gary Carter, talked with Matt Varney about the season, how things look for the 2024 season and beyond, and the catch heard round Southern Illinois that got Murphysboro past Harrisburg in the quarterfinals.
Thursday night Herrin's school board hired Stephanie Allen as their next athletic director, marking the first time the Herrin Athletic Department will be headed up by a woman.
