CARBONDALE, Ill. (WJPF) – Over the last two weeks, over a dozen different vehicles have been broken into in Carbondale.  Police say they’re looking for the people responsible, but in the meantime, are encouraging residents to lock their vehicle doors and keep an eye out for suspicious behavior.

Carbondale Police report the burglaries happened near apartment complexes and subdivisions at the following addresses:

  • 400 blocks of North Beadle Drive and North Robinson Circle
  • 600 block of East Campus Drive
  • 800 and 900 block of East Grand Avenue
  • 900 and 1000 block of East Park Street
  • 1100 and 1200 blocks of East Walnut Street

Over half of the reported incidents involved vehicles that were unlocked.

Police remind drivers to park their vehicle either in a garage or well lit area, keep windows rolled up and doors locked, and don’t leave valuables in the vehicle even if the door is locked.

Police also ask you to report any suspicious activity, like someone walking in the neighborhood checking door handles, trying to find an unlocked vehicle.
