John A. Logan College is set to unveil a new mascot soon. The college announced on Wednesday General John A. Logan’s horse will be their new mascot and they are seeking input for the name.
“We are excited to introduce our new mascot as a tribute to General Logan’s remarkable achievements and commitment to education,” said Dr. Kirk Overstreet, President of John A. Logan College in a statement released by the college. “The horse symbolizes the courage and dedication that we strive to instill in our students, and we believe it will inspire our college community for years to come.”
Voting for the new horse mascot’s name begins August 12 and the winning name will be revealed at the start of the Spring 2025 semester. Students will be emailed a link to vote while others will be able to vote on the college’s website. There will be four choices for voters to pick from.
“Historians have mentioned a couple of different horses used by General Logan throughout his life, so rather than choosing between one of the horses, we decided it would be fun to get our students and the community involved in selecting a name,” said Overstreet.
John A. Logan College plans to unveil the mascot imagery during welcome-back activities beginning on August 9. Merchandise will be available alter in the semester.
The college stated the mascot will complement the Vols nickname and will not replace it.
