JACKSON COUNTY, Ill. (WJPF) – A man has been sentenced for first degree murder of his wife.

30 year old Gregory Hopkins of Cape Girardeau was sentenced yesterday to 42 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.

The sentencing comes after police responded to the 1100 block of East College Street in January of 2023. The victim, 26 year old Gloria Hopkins of Carbondale, was the victim of domestic violence from her husband.

An arrest warrant was obtained on charges of first-degree murder and aggravated domestic battery. Hopkins fled to California, but was located and brought back to Jackson County to await trial.

Hopkins pled guilty four days before trial in September of 2023. He will serve 100% of his sentence.
