With the Mt. Vernon Rams suffering a shocking loss at Carbondale this past Friday, there’s a new #1 team in Little Egypt. The Marion Wildcats have claimed the top spot by the slimmest of margins, beating out Carterville by just a few votes.
The Wildcats shutout Granite City 47-0 on Friday night to improve to 2-0. Meanwhile, the Lions beat the Nashville Hornets 35-14 to also improve to 2-0.
The Du Quoin Indians continue to impress, sliding in to the Top 5 after 42-38 win at Harrisburg that went to down to the final second. That victory resulted in the biggest jump of the week, the Indians went from #8 to #4. This returns to the Indians to the Top 5 for the first time since the first-ever Little Egypt Football Poll in Spring of 2021. The Indians share the #4 spot with Mt. Vernon.
Nashville and Harrisburg both suffered the biggest slide of the week – both programs slid back four spots.
Carbondale’s stunning upset moved them to the top 10 at #7.
