JACKSON COUNTY, Ill. (WJPF) – Authorities in Jackson County say two people were killed Saturday in two separate motor vehicle accidents.
The first accident happened around 3:45 a.m. on Creekside Lane, near De Soto. Zachary Staggs, 21, lost control of a side-by-side while negotiating a curve. The vehicle rolled and hit a tree. Three passengers were taken to hospitals. Stags was pronounced dead at the scene.
The second accident happened around 10:30 a.m. on US 51, near Makanda. A pickup truck ran off the highway, hit a tree, and caught fire. The driver, who has not been identified pending family notification, was not wearing a seatbelt and was thrown from the wreck. They were pronounced dead at the scene.
