HERRIN, Ill. (WJPF) – Herrin’s Doughboy Statue has once again been vandalized.

This time, vandals dumped paint on the concrete base of the statue and surrounding plaza. It’s believed the damage happened sometime Sunday night. A $1,000 reward is being offered for information leading the arrest and conviction of those responsible.

The doughboy was built in 1927 and was originally placed in the middle of Park Avenue/Route 148. It was moved in the mid 1960s to the Herrin City Park. It was moved again to its current location, across from City Hall, in 2002.
