MARION, Ky. (AP) — The Cave-In-Rock Ferry is resuming operation in western Kentucky between Crittenden County, Kentucky, and Hardin County, Illinois.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet says floodwaters on the Ohio River have dropped sufficiently to allow the ferry to resume operating starting at 6 a.m. CDT Saturday.

The ferry halted operations on the evening of March 12th due to rising floodwaters.

The cabinet says ferry operator Lonnie Lewis reports the crew took advantage of the two-week break to perform maintenance and do some painting on the boat and barge.

The ferry carries about 500 vehicles across the Ohio River in an average day.
