CARBONDALE, Ill. (WJPF) – A convicted felon is back behind bars after he was caught by police in possession of a stolen gun.

Carbondale Police say at about 11:00 p.m. Friday, officers were called to a business in the 1900 block of South Illinois Avenue for a disorderly person. That person, 49-year-old Antwoine Smith of Carbondale, had two active warrants out for his arrest – one for unlawful use of a weapon by a felon and another for failure to appear in court in a battery case.

Officers also found that Smith was in possession of two guns, including one that was reported stolen to Carbondale Police in January.

Antwoine Smith was arrested for both warrants and faces new charges of unlawful use of a weapon by a felon and possession of a stolen firearm. He was taken to the Jackson County Jail.
