CARBONDALE, Ill. — Southern Illinois quarterback Nic Baker earned Missouri Valley Football Conference Offensive Player of the Week honors, the league office announced Sunday night.
Baker set the school passing record with 460 yards through the air in a 47-21 win at SEMO. The sophomore QB improved to 4-0 as a starter at SIU by completing 25-of-34 passes with four TDs and one interception. His first pass of the game went for a school-record 99 yards to Avante Cox. Nine different players caught passes and four different players caught touchdowns from Baker.
Baker won the award for the second time in his career. He also won player-of-the-week honors for leading the Salukis to a win over No. 1-ranked North Dakota State last spring. The last SIU quarterback to win the honor multiple times during his career was Sam Straub in 2016 and 2017.
