Oblates

BELLEVILLE, Ill. (AP) — A national Roman Catholic organization that operates an outdoor shrine in Belleville has until March 27 to submit documents related to molestation allegations dating to 1949.

In January, a Minnesota judge ordered documents to be turned over in the case of a man who accused the Reverend James Vincent Fitzgerald of sexually abusing him when he was boy. The order pertains to documents from the time Fitzgerald was ordained in 1949 to 1978. He died in 2009.

The judge gave the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate — which operates Belleville’s National Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows — the March deadline. The order affects offices in 50 states, including Illinois.

It was reported Sunday that Fitzgerald was assigned to Belleville in 1994 and lived there until his death.
