JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ill. (WJPF) — No injuries were reported in a crash on Interstate 57 involving 10 vehicles.
It happened around 9:30 a.m. Tuesday about eight miles north of Mt. Vernon.
Illinois State Police say pile-up began when a vehicle lost control, eventually coming to a stop in the road. A semi following behind stopped to avoid hitting the disabled vehicle. That semi was then rear-ended by a second semi, which was rear-ended by a third semi.
Another collision happened when a passenger vehicle stopping to avoid the pile-up and was rear-ended by a second vehicle, which was then rear-ended by a third vehicle.
That portion of I-57 was closed for about three hours for crash clean up.
