Police responded to an emergency call yesterday at the home of a Pickneyville police officer.

Officials state that the officer had suffered a gunshot wound and later died. They believe the wound was self-inflicted.

An investigation by the Illinois State Police is still ongoing and the name of the officer will be released at a later time.
