The Illinois Supreme Court has sided with seven faculty members at John A. Logan College after being laid off during the state’s budget crisis.
According to court records, the lawsuit stems from a decision made by the college’s Board of Trustees in March 2016. At that time, the Board voted to reduce the number of full-time faculty members. Seven teachers filed a lawsuit, claiming the Board violated state law. The trial court granted the Board’s decision to dismiss the case and the teachers appealed.
Late last week, the Illinois Supreme Court sided with the Appellate court saying what happened had been illegal.
