SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (IRN) — The U.S. Department of Labor announced Thursday that 1.3 million more Americans filed new claims for state unemployment benefits last week, the 16th week in a row that the figure has topped one million.

In Illinois, the Department of Employment Security announced the unemployment rate is 14.6%, with 221,800 leisure and hospitality jobs lost.
