SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WJPF) — Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul has joined a lawsuit against a new federal immigration rule that would deport international students if they don’t have at least one in-person class for the upcoming fall semester.

In a statement released Monday, SIU officials say they’re working with the Illinois Attorney General’s Office in filing legal declarations in support of the lawsuit challenging the new restrictions.

School officials also say they’re communicating with federal elected officials to let them know they oppose this decision and are asking lawmakers to intervene with the Trump Administration.
