MASSAC COUNTY, Ill. (WJPF) — An 86-year-old Metropolis woman is recovering after being hit by a truck while crossing the street.

According to Illinois State Police, Betty Varnum was walking across US 45 just before 1:00 p.m. Thursday when she was hit. Police note she was not in the crosswalk.

Varnum was taken by ambulance to a regional hospital with serious injuries.

No charges have been filed against the driver of the truck.
