ST. LOUIS — Fifteen members of the Southern Illinois women’s swimming and diving program were named to the Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete team, the league announced today. SIU and Northern Iowa tied for the most selections out of the eight teams in the MVC.
Of the 15 honorees, six received the accolade for the first time, one for the second time and eight for the third time. It was the second-straight year that 15 Salukis were named to the Scholar-Athlete team.
In order to achieve Scholar-Athlete status, an athlete must have competed at least one year and met one of the three following criteria’s.
• Hold a 3.3 cumulative GPA and make the MVC All-Conference team.
• Hold a 3.5 cumulative GPA and finish top-16 in an individual event at the MVC Championships.
• Hold a 3.8 cumulative GPA and participate at the MVC Championships.
