
CARBONDALE, Ill. (WJPF) — The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a 17-year-old male, believed to be connected to a New Year’s Day home invasion.
Sheriff’s Deputies responded just before 7:00 PM Wednesday to the report of an armed home invasion at a residence south of Carbondale. Occupants of the dwelling told deputies that two men had forced their way inside and demanded money. A struggle then ensued over a gun and shots were fired. The suspects then fled the home.
Roughly ten minutes later, Carbondale Police were called to SIH Memorial Hospital of Carbondale regarding a 17-year-old male patient being treated there for a gunshot wound. The patient later died.
Investigators believe the two incidents are connected. Their investigation is ongoing.
