Franklin County, Ill. – A murder trial is being delayed so the Franklin County State’s Attorney can conduct a psychological evaluation on the suspect.

Mary Zumwalt-Jophlin requested the evaluation and is now scheduled to stand trial October 7. Her original trial on concealment of homicidal death and obstruction of justice charges was September 9.

Zumwalt-Jophlin’s daughter, 8-year-old Alexus Nicole Smothers, died in July 2011. Prosecutors say Zumwalt-Jophlin gave conflicting statements about what happened the night of her death.
