McLeansboro, Ill. – A McLeansboro man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for a DUI that led to the deaths of five people.
49-year-old Darrell Delong was the lone survivor of the crash in November that killed his wife, Tammy, her parents, daughter and niece. He pleaded guilty last month to a charge of aggravated DUI.
Prosecutors say Delong was driving 88 miles per hour before his vehicle flipped several times. The Hamilton County State’s Attorney office Delong’s blood-alcohol content level was more than twice the legal limit and he was driving 88 miles per hour before his vehicle flipped several times.
Everyone except for Delong’s 16-year-old daughter Katelynn had alcohol or other illicit substances in their system.
Delong pleaded for a shorter sentence in court Tuesday so he could see more of his twin 11-year-old daughters.
