The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal truck-train accident in rural Gorham.

Police say 67-year-old Gerald Mifflin of Murphysboro was killed in the accident, just before noon, on Tuesday.

Mifflin was eastbound on Lover’s Lane in a pickup. He approached the Union Pacific Railroad crossing, failing to stop and running into the side of the train, which contained a tanker car.

Authorities say the tanker was not compromised and there was no leak.

Mifflin was pronounced dead at the scene.
