The Illinois Department of Public Health, along with the CDC and FDA say they’re investigating a salmonella outbreak associated with the supplement Kratom.
According to a news release from the department of public health, an Illinois resident who consumed Kratom before becoming sick, purchased it at a smoke shop in Williamson County.
Forty other cases have been reported in twenty eight other states. No deaths have yet been reported.
Kratom is a plant native to Southeast Asia that is consumed for its stimulant effects and as an opioid substitute.
