A check for one million dollars was delivered to members of the Carterville Unit 5 School District last week.

It was a gift from the late James and Rosemary Childress to the Carterville Schools Foundation.

According to a news release from the district, the generous gift, which has no restrictions on its use, will be used to establish the James B and Rosemary Samuel Childress Endowment Fund.

James Childress was a graduate of the Carterville school district.

Earlier this month 1.5 million dollars was left to John A Logan College in the Childress’ will.
