Area banks are starting a campaign advising you to skip the PIN at the pump. The banks say scammers can equip gas pumps with a device to steal your PIN when you pay at the pump – allowing them to make a fake debit card and drain your account.

You can still pay at the pump with your debit card – banks just suggest you choose to run the card as a credit card rather than a debit card.
