Starting December first, Mt. Vernon city employees will start taking 13 furlough days without pay.

It’s an effort by the Mt. Vernon city government to make some necessary budget cuts.

Currently, city leaders want employees to take one unpaid day off every other pay period.

In addition to slashing the budget with unpaid furlough days, Mt Vernon has cut seven city jobs completely – four from the parks department and three from public works.
