The slowdown in coal mining is resulting in higher water bills in Harrisburg.
It’s not a result you might think of, but the closing and idling of coal mines means they are buying much less water, and water utilities need more revenue to keep going.
The Harrisburg City Council has voted in a 13 percent hike in water rates. If you pay the base rate of $40.24 for water and sewer service, your bill will go up $3.20 per month.
