SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WJPF) – Illinois State Police say if you get a phone call from someone claiming to be an ISP agent telling you that your identity has been stolen, hang up, it’s a scam.
ISP says they’ve received several reports of the phone scam over the last few days. Illinois State Police will never call you, requesting personal or financial information or ask you to confirm or correct information they already have.
If you receive this phone call, ask for the caller’s name, badge number, and phone number, and then hang up. You can then verify if a caller is with the state police by contacting state police regional headquarters in DuQuoin or Effingham.
