The Marion Police Department is giving an update on scammers in the area.

Scammers are targeting unsuspecting individuals at cashier-manned and self-checkout lanes.

Photos of suspects involved in these scams have been posted to the City of Marion Police facebook page.

Scammers are observing you entering your PIN number at checkout, approaching you, claiming you dropped money or forgot something, and during the distraction stealing your card without you noticing.

Police want you to keep these tips in mind:

– Always shield your PIN when entering it at checkout.

– Be wary of strangers approaching you, especially in busy places.

– If someone insists you’ve dropped money, take a moment to assess the situation carefully before reacting.

– Keep a close eye on your belongings, especially your wallet or purse.
