SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WJPF) – Legislation addressing food deserts has passed the Illinois State Senate.
SB 3265 is sponsored by State Senator Dale Fowler (R-Harrisburg). According to Fowler’s office, the bill would create a program within the Illinois Department of Agriculture, tasked with establishing and operating projects and strategies that focus on the distribution of fresh, nutritious food while providing education in food preparation and nutrition in food deserts.
The bill passed the Senate unanimously and now heads to the House for further consideration.
