JOHNSTON CITY, Ill. (WJPF) – A recent traffic stop in Williamson County resulted in the seizure of almost 600 tablets of Xanax.
The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office says in the early morning hours of December 13, 2023 deputies pulled over a vehicle in the area of Interstate 57 and Herrin Road, in rural Johnston City, after the driver committed multiple traffic violations.
Police say a passenger in the vehicle, Warren Mangum, 41, of Chicago, had an outstanding warrant and was taken to jail. Once there, jail staff tasked with conducting a body cavity search say they found a large, clear plastic bag filled with hundreds of tablets of Xanax.
Warren Mangum was cited for controlled substance trafficking and possession of controlled substance and released. His next court appearance is February 7, 2024.
