Brent Peddicord

WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Ill. (WJPF) – What started as a report about an intoxicated person trespassing on private property in Williamson County quickly devolved into a physical altercation involving a knife.

Around 4:15 p.m. Monday, the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office says Brent Peddicord parked a vehicle in a private driveway near Route 37 and Southern Hunt Road. According to police, Peddicord told the owner of the property that he had run out of gas. Peddicord offered the property owner a drink from a bottle of alcohol he had with him in the vehicle. When the owner turned down the offer, Peddicord locked the vehicle and then took off walking down Route 37.

Williamson County Sheriff’s Deputies found Brent Prddicord a few minutes later, still walking along the highway. Deputies say Peddicord was visibly intoxicated and kept fidgeting with something on his waistband, but covered by his shirt.

When police asked Peddicord if he had any weapons in his possession, he responded by pulling out a large knife. A struggle over control of the knife ensued between Peddicord and the deputies, eventually ending with police using a taser and physically striking the man. One deputy was sent to the hospital with a back injury and cut to their hand. A booking photo from the jail shows Peddicord with a bruised eye.

Brent Peddicord was arrested for aggravated battery of a peace officer, unlawful use of a weapon by felon, aggravated assault of a peace officer, resisting/obstructing a peace officer, intoxicated pedestrian, and pedestrian walking on highway
