HERRIN, Ill. (WJPF) – A high speed chase involving a motorcycle on the streets of Herrin ended with a registered sex offender in handcuffs, accused of not updating his address with authorities.

The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office says just after 12:00 a.m. Thursday, November 9, deputies on patrol in Herrin saw Billy Jeralds, 31, driving a motorcycle near the intersection of Oak Street and 22nd Street without the required registration.  Police say they attempted to pull Jeralds over, but he sped away, driving west on Oak Street, at times reaching speeds around 70 miles per hour.

The chase continued moving west, with Jeralds driving through backyards, finally getting the motorcycle stuck in the mud near 35th Street.

Billy Jeralds was arrested on charges of aggravated fleeing and eluding, resisting arrest, violation of sex offender registry/duty to register, driving while license suspended, no valid driver’s license, reckless driving, speeding, no valid registration, failure to signal when required, disobeying a stop sign, operating an uninsured vehicle, and improper lane usage.
