CARBONDALE, Ill. – Southern Illinois University and LEARFIELD/Saluki Sports Properties, which manages the SIU radio network and multimedia rights, announced today the naming of Larry Larson as the new voice for Saluki Women’s Basketball.
Larry Larson comes to SIU with multiple years of broadcasting experience in professional and collegiate sports. Larson finished his second season with the Beloit Sky Carp, the High-A affiliate of the Miami Marlins, in September. With Beloit, Larry provided play-by-play of the team’s full 132-game schedule and contributed to the team’s media relations efforts.
“We are very fortunate to land someone with the skill set of Larry Larson,” said Luke Martin, Director of Broadcast for Saluki Sports Properties. “We had over 60 applicants and Larson’s professionalism, work ethic and engaging personality is what separated him.”
The Rockford, Ill., native has lent his voice to multiple schools and sports, including Illinois-Springfield and Wisconsin-Parkside basketball last winter.
“I’m very grateful and excited for this opportunity to tell the story of what head coach Kelly Bond-White is building,” Larson said. “Thank you to Luke Martin and Jon Ihrig and the rest of the Saluki Sports Properties team for their belief in me.”
Larson will be the play-by-play voice for Saluki Women’s Basketball, but he will also cover other Saluki Radio games for Men’s Basketball and Football.
Larson is a 2022 graduate of Bradley University, where he cut his teeth in broadcasting while majoring in Sports Communication. He called games for multiple sports on The Valley on ESPN through BU’s BravesVision program and covered MVC basketball while serving as an editor of the student newspaper.
While at Bradley, Larson co-founded Clutch Sports Media, LLC; a broadcast media company that provides live video, written, and social media coverage of high school sports in Central Illinois and helps college and high school students gain experience in the industry.
The first opportunity to listen to Larson will be Tuesday November 7th when Southern Illinois hosts SEMO for the 2023-24 season opener.
