TEUTOPOLIS Ill. (WJPF) – A semi truck carrying anhydrous ammonia overturned in an IL county, spilling the chemical and causing an evacuation.

The accident happened Friday evening about a half mile east of Teutopolis near an intersection of Route 40. Residents within a 1 mile radius were evacuated and provided shelter.

US highway 40 between Teutopolis and Montrose is currently closed and multiple crews are on scene.

At this time there are multiple fatalities.
