CARBONDALE, Ill. (WJPF) – Police in Carbondale say one person has been arrested after a robbery, foot chase, and shooting in a shopping center parking lot.

Around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, a person was robbed in the parking lot of the University Place shopping center, located in the 1200 block of East Main Street on the north side of Route 13.  A friend of the person who was robbed took off after the thief, chasing them through multiple stores.  The chase ended in a parking lot near Chili’s where the friend pulled out a pistol and fired at the thief.

No one got hurt and police reported no property damage. Juan Rivera, 30, of Carbondale, was charged with assault, aggravated robbery, and aggravated battery.  The person who fired the shots is not facing charges at this time.
