CARBONDALE, Ill. (WJPF) – Officials and residents of the City of Carbondale will celebrate the 150th anniversary of the town’s founding Wednesday.

A community sesquicentennial party is planned for 3:00 p.m. at the civic center.

The event will include refreshments, activities, live music, as well as remarks from the mayor and other guests. A symbolic unity candle will be lit by representatives from SIU, the Canadian National Railway, and community churches.
