Carbondale, IL – The Carbondale Community High School District voted on
April 13th to name Jim Miller as the Head Boys Basketball Coach for the upcoming 2023-24
basketball season.
Coach Miller has 38 years of coaching basketball collectively, including 23 years at Carbondale
Community High School (1998-2021). In those 23 years, Coach Miller’s record was 424-221
(66% win percentage). Coach Miller led his Carbondale teams to 10 Regional Titles, 7 South 7
crowns, 2 Sectional Championships, and 2 Super Sectional Championships. In 2004, his team
placed 4 th in the State Tournament and in 2005, his team placed 2 nd in the State Tournament with
a record of 31-3. He is the winningest coach in school history and has had 11 20+ seasons at the
helm.
Coach Miller retired from teaching and coaching at the end of the 2021 school year, following
the Covid outbreak and a shortened season. After being out of the game for two years, Coach
Miller is excited to once again lead the Carbondale basketball program.
Coach Miller states, “Ithas always been an honor to represent Carbondale Community High School and the Carbondale Community. It is a privilege to have the opportunity to come back and provide some stability
and continuity through the entire program. I am excited about working with the kids, teaching
the game, and developing a positive culture that will hopefully enhance their player growth.”
