A shooting in the 700 block of South Lewis Lane in Carbondale on Monday afternoon has led to the death of one person and at least two suspects are in custody.

According to a Carbondale Police Department news release, there are not any remaining offenders at large.

Officers found a gunshot victim shortly before 1:30 p.m. and learned a suspect fled from the scene. The victim, who has been identified, later died at a local hospital. Police say the victim and the suspect knew each other.

The incident caused a local school district to go on a “soft” lockdown. SIU-C Police sent out a text alert to students advising them to shelter in place.
