HAMILTON COUNTY, Ill. (WJPF) — Illinois State Police are investigating an shooting involving a Hamilton County sheriff’s deputy and a McLeansboro police officer.
ISP says at about 12:20 a.m. Wednesday the county deputy and municipal officer were booking an individual who had been arrested for Possession of a Stolen Vehicle, Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Possession of Methamphetamine at the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department. The individual escaped their restraints and assaulted the law enforcement officers who responded by firing their service weapons at the individual. The individual was taken to the hospital and was listed early Wednesday afternoon as being in critical condition.
State police say their investigation is ongoing.
