Jenny Jansen was named first-team Academic All-District by the College Sports Information Directors of America, the organization announced Thursday.
A MVC Scholar-Athlete First Team selection, Jansen finished in the top-15 of the Missouri Valley Conference in nearly every offensive statistical category. The Warrenton, Mo. native ranked top-15 in the league in batting average (.318; 14th), slugging percentage (.552; 14th), on-base percentage (.426; 15th), runs scored (30; 10th), hits (50; 7th), runs batted in (47; 2nd), home runs (9; 6th), total bases (85; 6th), walks (30; 5th) and stolen bases (10; 13th). Jansen reached base at least once in 46 of SIU’s 53 games and tallied 15 multi-hit games, which included a three-hit game against then No. 25 Mississippi State. The two-time All-MVC honoree took her game to another level in the 2021 MVC Tournament, as she went 5-for-9 with a home run in each of SIU’s three wins to not only tie the conference record for home runs in a single tournament, but also earn a spot on the All-Tournament Team after helping SIU win its first conference tournament title since 2017.
Jansen earned the honor in District 5, which is comprised of all Division I universities in the states of Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Ohio. Voting was done by CoSIDA membership. Jansen was joined by Illinois State’s Mack Leonard (now of Oklahoma State) as Valley players to earn Academic All-District honors. All members selected to the eight All-District teams are eligible for Academic All-America honors, which will be announced later this summer.
