TUSCON, Ariz. – The SIU baseball team is ranked #25 nationally in the latest top-30 poll by Collegiate Baseball, the organization announced Monday. SIU is 11-0 and has won 16-straight games dating back to last year.
SIU’s 16-game winning streak is the second-longest active winning streak in the nation, behind Navy’s 18-game winning streak. The Salukis are the first team in the nation to reach an 11-0 record this year, and SIU’s 11-0 record is tied for the best in program history (the 1967 Salukis also started 11-0).
SIU’s 16-game winning streak is tied for the fourth-longest in program history and longest since 1990, when SIU also won 16-straight games.
The Salukis are nationally ranked for the first time since 1990, when SIU finished a 49-14 season ranked #14 by Baseball America and #16 by Collegiate Baseball in their final national rankings.
The Salukis begin conference play this weekend with a four-game series against Evansville at Itchy Jones Stadium.
