WATERLOO, Ill. (WJPF) — Former Illinois State Senator Paul Schimpf is running for governor.
Speaking Monday morning with Newsradio WJPF, Schimpf said, “[It’s] something that I have not planned my entire life for. This is something that I’ve come to the conclusion I needed to do over this past year because I’m simply not willing to stand by idly and watch our state continue to deteriorate.”
The Monroe County Republican will make a formal announcement via Zoom.
Schimpf served one term in the Illinois Senate, representing the 58th district. In 2014, he ran unsuccessfully for Illinois Attorney General.
Schaumburg businessman Gary Rabine has also announced his intention to run for governor as a republican.
