The John A. Logan men’s basketball team were crowned the preseason favorites of the NJCAA DI poll on Tuesday afternoon.
The NJCAA released their poll with Logan being named the unanimous favorite headed in to the 2021 season, receiving all 5 first place votes. The Vols were selected as the #5 seed headed in to last year’s National Tournament before it was called off due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Returning perhaps the toughest post in all of the NJCAA, featuring Kansas commit Sydney Curry and Western Kentucky commit Jamarion Sharpe, Kyle Smithpeters has several weapons to back up the preseason #1 ranking, the first in John A. Logan men’s basketball history. Mario McKinney, who transferred in from Mizzou, figures to lead the group alongside the towering post of Sharpe and Curry.
Additionally, Tuesday morning the Volunteers received news that Romon Douglas-Watkins is transferring to John A. Logan and eligible to play for the Vols immediately. Douglas-Watkins, a six-foot-six small forward, is transferring from New Mexico Junior College.
