SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WJPF) — Southern Illinoisans will have the opportunity to get a taste of Asian Carp this weekend.

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is hosting a number of the free carp cookouts across the state Saturday. Agency officials say the events will kill two fish with one stone: getting rid of the invasive fish and providing free meals to folks in need.

Fish will be served at Giant City State Park from noon – 2:00 p.m. And at Walker’s Bluff from 2:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.

The SIU dining hall will also be cooking the fish for students.
