CARBONDALE, Ill. (WJPF) — Twice-weekly COVID-19 testing for SIU students and staff will become available Monday.
It’s the result of a $2.8 million federal CARES Act grant. Testing will be administered by SIH with the cooperation of the Jackson County Health Department. Test results are expected to be available in 24 – 48 hours.
Most of the money, $2.1 million, will be used by the Jackson County Health Department to expand contact tracing. That includes salaries for dedicated contact tracers. The remainder of the grant money will go to SIH for the purchase of equipment and supplies as well as covering the cost of a test for those without health insurance.
